Watford Boss Delivers Ambitious Luton Town Derby Message

Watford manager Tom Cleverley is preparing for a heated and emotional derby clash against Luton Town this Saturday, and he isn’t holding back on his ambitions.

Despite respecting his former manager and current Luton boss Rob Edwards, Cleverley is determined to deliver a blow to their rivals at Kenilworth Road.

Watford Ready for Luton Derby Battle

The upcoming fixture is not just any regular league match—it’s a local derby steeped in history and intensity. Watford go into the game on a positive run of form, but Cleverley insists that when it comes to derby games, form counts for little.

“What Luton have done doesn’t concern me much, and I think form goes out of the window in derby games,” Cleverley told reporters. “It’s a unique game and one where we won’t focus on current form. Yes, I prefer my team to be going into the game with confidence than lacking it, but it’s not been part of our preparation to focus on their results.

Rob is someone I have a lot of respect for, though I do want to inflict more pain upon them on Saturday afternoon. But he is also someone I really respect.”

Cleverley remains confident that his team is well-equipped for the challenge ahead, expressing his desire for Watford to impose themselves on the game and control the tempo.

Substitutes Key to Watford’s Success

A significant factor in Watford’s recent performances has been their ability to bring game-changers off the bench. In their last match, a 2-0 victory over Middlesbrough, substitutes scored both goals, a tactic Cleverley is likely to employ again against Luton.

“Substitutes will always be a big thing for us, and I think when opposition look at Watford they will say we find an extra gear from 60 minutes onwards,” Cleverley noted. “That’s because of how well our subs impact games, and it is a big strength in our squad. It’s something I’m lucky to have.”

Despite Luton being considered the favourites by bookmakers, Cleverley is unfazed by the odds, reminding fans that Watford have defied expectations on numerous occasions this season.
