Millwall Boss Targets “Momentum” at the Den

Millwall head coach Neil Harris believes his side can rediscover their best form at the Den as the Lions aim to improve on a slow start to the 2024/25 Championship campaign.

The South Londoners have taken just nine points from their opening nine games this season, as recorded by Whoscored. Over two-thirds of their points return has come at the Den following wins against Preston (3-1) and Sheffield Wednesday (3-0). After the Preston victory, Millwall failed to win their following two games, both away. The Lions lost 1-0 at bottom-side Cardiff and were held to a goalless draw at West Brom before the October international break.

Millwall’s Harris Wants Positivity at the Den

Harris previously questioned Millwall’s “hunger and desire” to get over the line at home following his side’s 1-0 loss to Luton in September. However, with four of their next six games coming at the Den, the former Gillingham boss wants his side to get back to their best in front of a home crowd.

When speaking to Southwark News, the 47-year-old backed his side to improve their fortunes in South London and to help get supporters behind the team.

[Playing at home] has to boost momentum for us, that’s a big one. We’ve always relied on The Den as a large return for points at this football club.

It’s not always easy to be a Millwall player at The Den, but then we have to find that inner strength and we have to find that togetherness as a group and we have to put in the performances individually and collectively that enable the fans to follow us and get behind us.

The Lions face Derby at home this Saturday and then face Plymouth at the Den just four days later. Both sides are in mid-table, with the Rams only three points above Millwall, who sit in 18th place in the Championship.

Millwall ended last season as the most in-form home team in the Championship, per Whoscored. Harris’ outfit took 15 points from their final six at the Den – more than any other side in the same period. A win over Derby could kickstart the Lions’ campaign so it’s clear to see why Harris is so eager for his team to improve, especially in South London.
