Crystal Palace winger Jesurun Rak-Sakyi has revealed the reasons behind his decision to reject a loan move to Leeds United during the summer transfer window, despite significant interest from the Yorkshire club.
The 21-year-old was among the most sought-after players in the Championship, with several clubs, including Leeds, vying for his signature. Crystal Palace made it clear they were only open to loan deals for the winger, turning down permanent offers from clubs such as Southampton.
Leeds United, looking to fill the void left by Crysencio Summerville’s transfer to West Ham, were eager to secure Rak-Sakyi’s services. However, after considering his options, Rak-Sakyi ultimately rejected the offer from Leeds, joining Chris Wilder’s Sheffield United.
Speaking to The Star, Rak-Sakyi acknowledged the stature of Leeds United but cited other factors that influenced his decision. “My agent made me aware of the interest from them [Leeds], and I knew it was a big club,” he said. Despite recognising Leeds’ standing, the winger felt that other opportunities presented a more suitable fit for his development.
The decision to turn down Leeds came after careful deliberation. Rak-Sakyi explained that it was the plans and vision presented to him by Blades boss Wilder that swayed his decision. “The manager here spoke to me, and I was really impressed with what he said and the plans he had for me. So that made me decide to come here,” he added.
Leeds, despite making a strong push for the winger, had to shift their focus to alternative targets. The club eventually brought in Largie Ramazani and Manor Solomon to strengthen their wide options as the transfer window drew to a close.
