Leeds United acquired the loan signing of Manor Solomon in the summer transfer window. The Tottenham Hotspur winger has impressed present and former managers.
Following Solomon’s debut for the West Yorkshire side, high praise has been given to the Spurs loanee. Last season, very little was seen of the 25-year-old, as he missed out on its majority due to injury. Ange Postecoglu has allowed the former Shakhtar Donetsk winger to gain some much-needed experience this summer in the second tier.
Solomon’s debut consisted of 74 minutes and one assist, against Hull City. In this 2-0 victory at Elland Road, the winger also took two shots and completed two successful dribbles. This standout performance has received complimentary opinions from Neil Redfearn – a former Leeds manager.
When speaking to BBC Radio Leeds, the 59-year-old explained his view on the loanee’s performance and his belief that Solomon is a step above the rest in the division:
“I thought Manor Solomon was probably the man of the match.
“He has got the quality that’s better than this level, you can obviously say that. Initially, in the first 20 minutes, it was like tackling smoke and he was unplayable at times.”
The former Fulham loan player exemplified an important role in a new-look Leeds front line. Mateo Joseph and Brendan Aaronson have also found themselves slotting into the starting eleven due to the departures of Georginio Rutter and Crysencio Summerville.
In regards to summer transfers altogether, the 25-year-old was one of the many new recruits that the Whites brought in. Joe Rothwell arrived on loan from Bournemouth, with a turnover of four players leaving the club temporarily. The £150 million plus profit, that the West Yorkshire outfit have accumulated, has gone towards the signings of Largie Ramazani, Joe Rodon, Jayden Bogle, Isaac Schmidt, and Ao Tanaka.
Leeds currently sit in fourth place and will be looking to challenge for promotion this season, with real quality being injected into the starting line-up. Two wins and two draws make the Championship team one of only five teams to remain unbeaten this campaign.
Writer’s View
This is Solomon’s fifth spell at a senior club – his second loan. Despite playing 106 times for Shakhtar, and 37 for his national side, the 25-year-old is somewhat overlooked at his parent club. A successful loan will hopefully lift the winger’s spirits and allow Postecoglu to appreciate the talent at Spurs’ disposal.
With the former Maccabi Petach Tikva attacker’s tricky skills and abundance of pace, the Championship will have noticed a major threat down that Leeds left-hand side. In the approaching weeks, Solomon could be expecting two players focusing their defence on him. However, this shouldn’t be a problem for the Spurs loanee, as his professionalism and expression of talent at the highest level will be highlighted even further.
