Blackburn Rovers Announce Deadline Day Signing

Blackburn Rovers have acquired the services of 26-year-old, Balázs Tóth. The Hungarian has signed on a three-year-deal with the Lancashire side.

Tóth, who signs from Fehervar FC, has featured 39 times since his initial loan move from Puskas FC Academy in August 2023. After only joining up permanently this summer, the 25-year-old has already secured a deal with Championship side, Blackburn.

With international clearances still being awaited, prior to being able to feature at Ewood Park, the Hungarian will join up with a side who have made a lot of incomings this summer. The goalkeeper becomes John Eustace’s eighth signing of the window. Andreas Weimann, Danny Batth, Jack Barrett, Makhtar Gueye, and Yuki Ohashi have all signed deals with Rovers on a permanent basis.

Tóth’s personal accolades in the Hungarian division extend to a Golden Glove award for last season’s heroics. Rovers’ new shot-stopper managed to keep 13 clean sheets in 30 league matches, where Fehervar finished fourth. An inclusion in Hungary’s upcoming Nations League games has been handed to Tóth, with experience in one of Europe’s top-flight leagues and the UEFA Europa Conference League.

This season, Fehervar put their trust in the 25-year-old once again, playing him in four of their Conference League qualifying matches.

Since Thomas Kaminski’s departure from the Championship side last summer, Blackburn have shared goalkeeping minutes between Aynsley Pears and Leopold Wahlstedt. Tóth joins the Lancashire side, who finished three points above relegation last year, as a contender for the number one spot – with regular minutes on the cards.

Writer’s View

As one of the most promising ‘keepers in the country last season, Tóth appears to be an astute pick-up for Blackburn. The side who play at Ewood Park have been in dire need of someone to take on the mantle of Kaminski.

The 25-year-old will likely solidify Rovers’ shaky defence, and give them an extra boost of confidence this season. It also shows that the club are willing to notice talent from different areas of Europe and this will be a long-term benefit. Players from mainland Europe or England tend to be priced higher whih leaves more room for a potential flop.

However, this is a very smart model to use, as profit seems more likely given the reasonable transfer fees that Rovers have been agreeing this summer.

After a very slow start in the market, Eustace’s side having been picking up momentum with some fantastic signings. Steering clear of early relegation zone expectations, Rovers could easily over-perform in the Championship this year.
