Bristol Rovers Boss Makes Transfer Admission Ahead Of Friday Deadline

Matt Taylor admits Bristol Rovers are in a ‘comfortable place’ regarding transfer news as the Friday deadline looms ever closer.

With it being Taylor’s first full season in charge at the Memorial Stadium, significant turnover has been made on the transfer front. Although 17 players have left in total, 14 have come in to replace those departing. Perhaps the most notable to depart was Anthony Evans, who joined Micheal Duff’s Huddersfield Town for a significant six-figure undisclosed fee. Just like the Gas have received the cash, they’ve also splashed it, bringing in Isaac Hutchinson, Dan Ellison, Bryant Bilongo, Joel Senior, Taylor Moore and Promise Omochere to the club for undisclosed fees. They have also used the loan market well, bringing in four loanees from both Premier League and Championship clubs, as well as snapping up four players on free transfers.

The Gas have started their 2024/25 League One campaign relatively well, winning against Northampton Town on the opening day. Since then, Bristol Rovers have drawn two matches on the bounce, after losing a Carabao Cup tie at Cardiff City.

Speaking to Bristol Live, Taylor stated

“Nothing directly on the table. Conversations I suppose. George (Friend) is taking care of that more so than myself.

“We’ve probably learned a little bit more in terms of that from the last two Tuesdays with cup games and where the squad are at but in terms of where the rest of the group are at, I don’t want any distractions.

“We’re in a comfortable place. We did so much work early in the window, or as early as we possibly could, that we’re only needing ones or twos both in and out in relation to that

With the busy summer, Taylor did however admit that there might be some more faces in and possibly out before the deadline, claiming that

“We’ll keep on monitoring what the options are and the opportunities and there’s always more in the last week of the window. Always ones that you didn’t think were available that become available or plans change. We’re in a position to be reactive but we’re in a comfortable position. There’s no panic about it but we are still in the market.”

Writer’s View

A comfortable position is one all clubs would also like to be ideally with the deadline creeping up. However, things will change as clubs scramble to get all their business done before next Friday. With such a busy summer, you’d expect Bristol Rovers to have slowed down on the transfer front at some point. Only time will tell whether or not the Gas will have any more incomings or departures before the dreaded transfer deadline day on Friday.

The days leading up to deadline day and deadline day itself are always quite frankly a mess, with every club trying their best to get their targets in as soon as possible. Although transfers at this point in the window have slowed considerably, clubs should fully expect it to ramp up again in the next few days.
