Huddersfield Town Head Coach Michael Duff wants more signings before the transfer window shuts but he is realistic that existing players must leave if the Terriers bring in any new personnel.
Huddersfield have signed five players during the transfer window so far. The Yorkshire club most recently secured West Ham striker Callum Marshall on loan for the remainder of the season last week. Marshall joins midfield quartet Anthony Evans, Lasse Sørensen, Herbie Kane and Mickel Miller, who arrived at the John Smith’s Stadium earlier in the summer, as recorded by Transfermarkt.
Despite making several additions to his playing squad for the 2024/25 campaign, Duff seems eager to bring in reinforcements, particularly in the forward areas. While the Terriers have up to seven players who can play in the centre-forward role, per Transfermarkt, the club are short in the wide areas. Josh Koroma and summer signings Sørensen and Miller are the only out-and-out wide midfielders.
Huddersfield made a winning start in their opening League One match on Saturday with a comfortable 2-0 away win at Peterborough United. There’s a quick turnaround as the Yorkshire club hosts League Two Morecambe in the EFL Cup first round on Tuesday evening.
Speaking to Yorkshire Live ahead of the Morecambe clash, Duff outlined his transfer ambitions – with more arrivals targetted. However, the Northern Irish coach also acknowledged that some players might have to depart if any new players join.
“We are still looking, and the ins will probably affect the outs. We’ve not let anybody out yet, because we obviously had the four signings but now Callum’s come in, and if any more come in, that might make room for other people.
It’s not always a case of getting rid of people, sometimes it’s just not fair to keep people that aren’t going to get opportunities.
“We’re just still looking to add. You don’t always get what you want. I’d like a six-foot-three centre-forward who can hold it up, run in behind and finish and his link play’s really good, but with respect, we are where we are.”

Duff seemingly wants more depth to his squad and this certainly makes sense in the wide attacking areas. With a long season ahead looking at wide players seems like sound business, especially with just three natural options to play on the left or right flanks currently.
While Duff has plenty of depth in the centre-forward positions, his admission that he wants another central striker suggests that he may want more goal scoring quality too. The Yorkshire side missed out on signing Alfie May earlier in the window and it still appears to be an area that the club is not quite content with yet.
