Leeds United star attacker Crysencio Summerville has been the subject of interest from several top clubs in Europe and the Premier League, including West Ham United.
It was reported by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano earlier this week that the Hammers have made an official proposal to Leeds United in an attempt to bring the Dutchman to the London Stadium. However, Romano stated that, despite talks recently taking place between the club and Summerville’s representatives, the East London outfit consider him too expensive at this moment in time due to the Whites’ asking price.
Furthermore, the Italian journalist reported that Serie A giants AS Roma have also added Summerville to their list of possible signings this summer, although the club will only make a move for him should their pursuit of Juventus winger Matias Soule fall through. Nevertheless, it looks as though the Giallorossi won’t be in the running after all as Roma and the Bianconeri have agreed a £22 million fee that will see the player move to the Stadio Olimpico.
Now, Romano has provided an update on West Ham’s chase of Summerville’s signature, stating that he is not sure whether the Premier League side will be able to make a transfer come to fruition but that their interest is “genuine”. Speaking to GIVE ME SPORT, he said:
“The interest is still there in Summerville. It’s an expensive package, so I’m not sure West Ham will be able to make it happen, but the interest is genuine.
“They had contacts on the player’s side and contacts on the club side after speaking to Leeds last week. He is one of the players they have on their shortlist.”
West Ham are not the only club in the English top-flight with Summerville on their summer wishlist. It has also been reported over the past few weeks that Liverpool, Chelsea, Newcastle United and even Brighton and Hove Albion have all been keeping tabs on his situation at Elland Road.
Writer’s View
There was always going to be interest in Summerville, regardless of whether or not Leeds United earned promotion back to the Premier League, but this intrigue has been heightened ever since Daniel Farke’s side failed to do so after their defeat in the play-off final as the player recorded 31 goal contributions in all competitions in the previous campaign.
However, the Whites’ asking price seems to be far too excessive right now for any teams that make an official approach for the attacker. The West Yorkshire side are reportedly looking for between £35-40 million to let Summerville leave which may just be too big of a risk for many clubs in a transfer window where PSR is on the minds of most board members in the top tier.
