Swansea City Eyeing Move For Top-Flight Striker

According to reports from the Daily Record, Swansea City are considering a move for released Rangers striker James Graham.

The 20-year-old Scottish striker is available on a free transfer after his release from Scottish giants Rangers. Graham joined the club from Ross County when he was only 16, and in recent years, has been loaned out to the likes of Annan Athletic and Dumbarton.

He has seemingly failed to impress, not scoring a single goal in 13 appearances whilst on loan at Annan, and netting twice in 13 appearances at Dumbarton.

It is Welsh side Swansea that now looks set to sign the youngster, with the Scotsman already in Wales ahead of the potential switch. It is reported that the Swans academy chief, Gavin Levey, knows of the striker from his time with Scottish side Aberdeen and that the Jacks believe he would be a good fit for their development squad.

Although the Championship side’s main focus is currently on their first-team squad, bringing in the likes of Portuguese international Goncalo Franco and South Korean international Eom Ji-Sung, they have experienced success stories from their academy, with the likes of Liam Cullen and Ben Cabango being first-team regulars for the club in the second tier.

Not to mention the likes of Daniel James, Joe Allen and Joe Rodon, who all came through at Swansea, who have now all gone on to have illustrious careers within the game.

Former Notts County boss Luke Williams returned to the Swans in January, following the departure of Micheal Duff. In his first half-season in charge, he guided the side to 14th place. With Williams’ first full campaign in charge in South Wales now on the horizon, he will be looking to make this squad his own, with Swansea already holding a reported interest in both former Cardiff City striker Mark Harris and St. Johnstone striker Adama Sidibeh.

Although the signing of the young striker may not immediately pay off, the fact that the Swans are looking to bring in young talent speaks volumes about their future intent for the club.

Whilst Williams’ side did start slow on the transfer front, with the additions of midfielders Franco, Ji-Sung, and now potentially promising prospect Graham, Swans fans will be hoping that their side can push on for next season.

For Graham, a move to the white side of Wales may seem like a no-brainer, as their record with academy prospects and graduates speaks for itself. The club provide a clear path for their prospects to make a move into first-team Championship football.
