Scottish Premiership side Aberdeen are considering making an ambitious move for Crystal Palace midfielder Killian Phillips, following his successful loan spell at Shrewsbury Town last season, according to Alan Nixon via his Patreon.
The 21-year-old Irish midfielder is wanted by a host of clubs this summer, but the Dons hope to be at the front of the queue to sign the talented attacking midfielder on loan, with Palace also open to the idea of Phillips committing to the Eagles on a longer deal .
Who is Killian Phillips?
Born in San Diego, California, Killian moved to Kilbarrick in Ireland with his family when he was a child and began his footballing career at Kilbarrick United before making a move to fellow Irish side Drogheda United.
Phillips made his debut for The Drogs in April of 2021, and went on to make a total of 30 appearances for the club. At the end of the 2021-22 season, the Irishman had a trial at Premier League side Crystal Palace and signed for the Eagles during the January transfer window.
Phillips was selected for the Republic of Ireland U-21 squad in March, but was a non-playing substitute during the international break.
He made his senior debut for Palace in the Carabao Cup tie against Oxford United on the 23rd August 2022.
On the 29th December, it was announced that Phillips would be joining Shrewsbury Town on loan from 1st January until the end of the season. He went on to make 19 appearances for the Salop during the second-half of the season. Due to his outstanding performances, he was named the club’s Young Player Of The Season with ex-Shrewsbury boss Steve Cotterill describing some of his performances as “immense.”
Writers’ View
To be voted Shrewsbury Town’s Young Player Of The Season despite only joining the club in the January transfer window indicates how good a player Killian Phillips was at the back-end of last season. So it comes as no surprise that a host of clubs want to sign the 21-year-0ld on permanent as well as loan deals.
Phillips will have a load of options, with Aberdeen being an interesting one. I would be interested to see how well he gets on in Scotland but I would not be surprised if he decided to stay in England as he is one of the brightest prospects that Crystal Palace have, so it’s no wonder they are looking at giving him a new deal.
