Sheffield United Keen To Sign £1.7 Million-Rated Ipswich Town Promotion Star

Sheffield United are looking to bolster their forward line this summer and have set their sights on a player who spent the second half of last season at Ipswich Town, according to reports.

Chris Wilder’s squad has been left bare-bone over the past two weeks, with a number of players officially leaving Bramall Lane for free since the turn of July. The Blades’ forward line has been stripped away, with Oli McBurnie and Daniel Jebbison leaving the club respectively, while Cameron Archer returned to Aston Villa. Furthermore, Ben Brereton Diaz’s loan deal also came to a conclusion.

So far, Sheffield United have done some business, bringing in Jamie Shackleton on a free transfer after he left Leeds United two weeks ago. Additionally, former Norwich City fullback Sam McCallum has joined the West Yorkshire outfit on a four-year deal following the departure of Max Lowe to bitter city rivals Sheffield Wednesday. Still, no new attackers have been brought through the doors as of yet.

Nevertheless, journalist Alan Nixon, via The Yorkshire Post, has issued an update on the club’s pursuit of some firepower this summer, claiming that Sheffield United are keen to secure a deal for Bournemouth centre-forward Kieffer Moore.

The Wales international found himself down the pecking order under Cherries boss Andoni Iraola last season and was sent out on loan in January to Ipswich Town who were near the top of the Championship. This move worked out for all parties as Moore found the net seven times in just 18 matches as the Tractor Boys earned an unprecedented promotion to the Premier League. As a result, Moore has a market value of £1.7 million, as per Transfermarkt.

In addition, Nixon has stated that Bournemouth are open to selling Moore this summer but would also be willing to send him back out on loan with the option of the deal being made permanent in 12 months which could suit the Blades who find themselves in a tricky financial situation currently due to the ongoing takeover talks.

Writer’s View

Sheffield United are in dire need of signings this summer, having already lost more than 10 first-team players in the transfer window. The attacking department is one area that needs fixing the most as they only have former Liverpool frontman Rhian Brewster and young strikers Benie Traore and William Osula on the books.

Moore could be the perfect replacement for McBurnie. In fact, the Welshman would be an improvement on the Scottish centre-forward. He has a history of earning promotion to the Premier League and is a proven goalscorer at this level. If the Blades can manoeuvre a loan deal with the option to buy him at the end of the 2024/25 campaign, this would be a superb piece of business.
