Supercomputer Makes Shock Sheffield United Prediction Ahead Of 2024/25 Campaign

Sheffield United endured a dismal relegation from the Premier League last season and the latest projections have predicted that misery will continue pouring down at Bramall Lane.

The Blades dropped straight back down to the Championship, having accumulated merely 16 points from 38 games in the top-flight of English football. This was the lowest number of points accumulated by a team in the Premier League since Derby County mustered just 11 in the 2007/08 campaign.

Adding insult to injury, the club conceded more goals in one season than any other team in the competition’s 32-year history, allowing the opposition to score against them 104 times – an eye-watering average of 2.7 goals conceded per game.

Prior to the season, Sheffield United sold star midfielder Sander Berge to fellow newly-promoted side Burnley for a reported £12 million while Iliman Ndiaye, who recorded 25 goal contributions for the South Yorkshire outfit during their 2022/23 promotion-winning campaign, was sold for £20 million to French giants Marseille. These two sales certainly contributed towards what was a disastrous return to the Premier League.

Nevertheless, the club’s downward trajectory is not looking like stopping heading into the 2024/25 season. Sheffield United will be restricted this summer as a result of the ongoing takeover discussions happening in the background which could force Chris Wilder to wait before improving his squad.

As a result, the Grosvenor Sport Supercomputer, which has simulated each fixture 1,000 times for all 24 Championship clubs, has predicted the Blades to finish in the bottom half of the table with merely 54 points, 13 above the relegation zone but 21 below the final play-off spot.

Naturally, when teams are relegated from the Premier League, they are automatically one of the favourites to bounce straight back up. However, Sheffield United are cash-strapped at the moment and will have to compete with the likes of Burnley, Leeds United and Hull City, who will have more money to spend this summer.

Additionally, everyone in the Championship will strengthen their squads in an attempt to achieve their own objectives. The Blades could actually end up with a weaker squad, hence why the Supercomputer hasn’t been kind to them.
