Sheffield United Edging Closer To Signing 26-Cap International

Sheffield United are looking to bolster their squad this summer and are edging closer to a move for Canada international Liam Millar, according to the latest reports.

The Blades are preparing for yet another season of Championship football, having been relegated from the Premier League last season, accumulating the third-lowest number of points in the competition’s history. Only Derby County and Sunderland collected fewer points than the club’s measly 16 across the 2023/24 campaign.

Former Sheffield United Star Set To Join Championship Promotion Rivals

There has already been some movement at Bramall Lane. First-choice goalkeeper Wes Foderingham, who shipped a whopping 79 goals across 30 matches in the top-flight while keeping merely one clean sheet, is closing in on a move to West Ham United and a medical has been booked with the London outfit.

However, one player who is set to come through the doors at the South Yorkshire club is Millar. It has been reported by journalist Adam Oxley that Sheffield United are closing in on the signing of Millar from Swiss Super League club FC Basel.

The playmaker spent the entirety of last season on loan at Championship side Preston North End so he is certainly able to compete in England’s second tier. Oxley has revealed that the 24-year-old will complete his switch to the Blades following the conclusion of the Copa America where he will compete with the Canada national team, having previously earned 26 caps for his country.

The Liverpool academy graduate scored five goals and recorded the same number of assists throughout the campaign at Deepdale but is set to swap Lancashire for Yorkshire over the coming weeks.

This is a really good signing for Sheffield United. One of the biggest mistakes that the club made upon being promoted to the Premier League last year was selling Iliman Ndiaye and not buying a replacement for the Senegalese who could also create chances and score goals.

While Millar’s stats certainly aren’t as impressive as Ndiaye’s, he still has room to grow and his showing last season with Preston is indicative of what could come from the Canadian when playing in a much stronger team.
