Sheffield United goalkeeper Wes Foderingham is set to join Premier League side West Ham United following his release from The Blades, as reported by Fabrizio Romano on X.
The former Rangers man has spent the last four seasons at Bramall Lane, with the last three of those being number one. However, the club decided that this was the right time to part ways as they chose against offering him a contract.
The London-born man began his career in Fulham’s youth ranks, before making the switch across the capital to Crystal Palace. After a handful of loan spells, a move to Swindon Town followed. The Englishman impressed enough there to earn himself a move to the Scottish Premier League with Rangers, where he became a regular at Ibrox.
Last season saw Chris Wilder’s side had an unbelievably poor season in the Premier League, with their defensive record being categorically poor with the 33-year-old conceding 79 goals in 30 appearances.
However, regardless of that record, West Ham still wish to bring him in on a free deal this summer, following the release of their third-choice goalkeeper.
The Hammers finished ninth in the top-flight last season, and are now looking to build on that under new manager Julen Lopetegui. Although Foderingham may not be seen as an immediate improvement to the first team, squad depth is key in the division.
Sheffield United will now need to strengthen in that position following the release of not just their starting goalkeeper, but also one of their backups in Adam Davies.

With Alphonse Areola and Lukasz Fabianski already at the club, it is unlikely Foderingham will be getting a start in the league this coming season, however, at his age, he may be happy to simply be a squad player.
Furthermore, being English could be of benefit to West Ham as they potentially have one eye on ensuring they fulfil squad registration rules for continental competitions.
