Norwich City are in for a summer of change with the transfer market now open and one key player could even be heading for the exit door, according to the latest reports.
The Canaries missed out on promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs following a 4-0 defeat on aggregate to Leeds United last month. As a result, the Norfolk-based club have been resigned to yet another season of Championship football but this also means that parachute payments will be reduced even further by the next campaign.
Furthermore, the second-tier side will have less to spend during this summer than any of the previous summer windows, meaning there will likely be some player sales as the board seek to beef up new manager Johannes Hoff Thorup’s transfer kitty.
One name that has been linked with a move away from Carrow Road is Jonathan Rowe. The winger bagged 13 goals and recorded three assists for Norwich City last season when David Wagner was at the helm and clubs in the Premier League are rumoured to be interested in signing the 21-year-old.
Furthermore, the hierarchy may be able to get a good fee for centre-forward Adam Idah. The Republic of Ireland had a fruitful loan spell at Celtic during the second half of the previous campaign, scoring nine goals in 19 matches and lifting the league and cup double in Scotland. Idah is keen to earn a permanent move to the Scottish Premiership champions and a fee of between £5-6 million has been discussed in the press.

Finally, more news has been revealed over the past 24 hours regarding the future of Scotland international Kenny McLean following his nation’s exit from EURO 2024 after a 1-0 defeat to Hungary. The Daily Record are reporting that the 32-year-old is a target up north for Rangers.
McLean still has two years remaining on his contract with the Canaries, although the club have the option to extend his stay by a further twelve months, and he currently boasts a market value of between £2.3-3.9 million, as per FootballTransfers.

It has been claimed recently that the Norwich City board are looking to reduce the average age of the first-team squad. The likes of Ben Gibson were allowed to leave as a result and, now on the wrong side of 30, perhaps the hierarchy are willing to let McLean follow suit.
Nevertheless, too much change isn’t necessarily a good thing. While McLean may be keen to join his boyhood club, he is still one of the most important players at Carrow Road. Selling him without a direct replacement may leave Hoff Thorup’s side bare in the middle of the park.
