Chelsea Goalkeeper Teddy Sharman-Lowe spoke of his excitement as he embarks on his first season in the EFL with Doncaster Rovers.
The 21-year-old is the latest name through the door in South Yorkshire as they look to build upon their sublime form at the end of last season to make the League Two Playoffs for the second season in a row. Rovers fell short in a penalty shootout defeat against Crewe Alexandra after finishing 5th place.
It will be the second time McCann used the loan market for a player between the sticks since his return after Hull City‘s Thimothee Lo-Tutala was signed in February and immediately became the first-choice keeper, overtaking Louis Jones.
Sharman-Lowe is making his third loan move since joining The Blues in 2021 following breaking out to make a handful of appearances for Burton Albion in the EFL Cup and EFL Trophy. He was a regular feature for Havant and Waterlooville during their spell in the National League South and played three times for Bromley last season as they gained promotion to League Two.
He recently signed a new one-year deal to stay at Stamford Bridge ahead of the loan move, with an additional option to extend his contract for an additional 12 months after returning from Andy Woodman’s side, and made appearances in the Premier League 2 as well as being an unused sub in the senior team’s league games.
Speaking to club media after completing the move to the Eco-Power Stadium, the Leicester-born keeper said (Quotes via Doncaster Free Press): “It was important for my progression to be in a high-level winning environment. I watched the play-offs last year when Doncaster were close. Hopefully this year I can help and we can push on and get it done.
“I’ve been trying to get a move like this for the past few years really. It’s important I get minutes and games and I’m grateful for this opportunity.
“You know we want to play and he’s very comfortable with the ball his feet but not only that he’s a very good shot stopper and comes out for crosses and his command his area.”
