Sheffield Wednesday Reignite Interest In 15-Goal Attacker

Sheffield Wednesday are in the market for a new centre-forward this summer and will reignite their interest in a target from the January transfer window, according to the latest reports.

It was a gruelling campaign for the Owls, one which began miserably as the club failed to win any of their opening ten matches under former boss Xisco Munoz. The ex-Watford coach was swiftly moved on and replaced with a relatively unknown entity in English football named Danny Rohl.

Sheffield Wednesday Set To Announce Major Contract News

Chairman Dejphon Chansiri’s appointment of Rohl was a huge risk but one which paid dividends by the end of the season. Having been bottom of the table upon his arrival, the German guided the South Yorkshire outfit out of the relegation zone as the club finished three points clear of the drop zone following a 2-0 win away at Sunderland on the final day.

As a result, Sheffield Wednesday will remain in England’s second tier for at least another season, setting up the first Steel City Derby in over five years. However, the Owls’ survival will also allow the club to attract better players this summer.

One man who was wanted by Rohl and the board back in January was Arsenal youngster Mika Biereth, having been recalled from his successful loan spell at Motherwell. Unfortunately, Wednesday missed out on his signature as the centre-forward was sent out on loan to Sturm Graz, where he picked up a league and cup double in Austria.

Now, The Sheffield Star are claiming that Sheffield Wednesday will go back in for Biereth this summer following the end of his loan spell at Sturm Graz. Arsenal are keen to loan the player back out once more, although his contract with the London outfit is set to expire in 2025.

Biereth had two successful stints on loan throughout the 2023/24 campaign. The 21-year-old bagged 15 goals and registered nine assists in 37 appearances in all competitions across his time in Austria and in Scotland with Motherwell.

This is exactly the type of player that Sheffield Wednesday need next season. The club’s top goalscorer in the 2023/24 campaign was Anthony Musaba who found the net merely eight times. Rohl needs a more consistently prolific attacker and someone who can also create chances for others. Biereth has proven he can be this player.
