Leeds United Suffer Huge Transfer Blow

Leeds United have suffered a huge blow after reports emerged that winger Crysencio Summerville has ‘almost certainly played his last game’ for the club.

The Whites suffered heartbreak this past weekend when they lost in the Championship play-off final against Southampton at Wembley Stadium. After pushing for automatic promotion for the majority of the campaign, Adam Armstrong’s solitary strike was enough to condemn Daniel Farke’s side to another season of second tier football.

It was a game which was arguably more important for the Yorkshire side. There had been heavy speculation leading up to the clash that a number of their key stars had been attracting Premier League interest, prompting fears that there could be a ‘fire sale‘ at Elland Road throughout the summer.

The likes of Archie Gray, Wilfried Gnonto and Summerville have all been linked with moves away, with the latter in particular drumming up a host of interest. It is said that Liverpool are huge fans of the player, who has starred for Leeds this season.

The 22-year-old is under contract until 2026 and hit 21 goals in all competitions. On top of that, he contributed 10 assists which saw him win both the division’s Player of the Season and Leeds’ Players’ Player of the Season.

According to Dutch media outlet Algemeen Dagblad, via Sport Witness, the winger is likely to depart the club during the upcoming transfer window, with Aston Villa and Chelsea joining Liverpool in the race. Previous reports stated that Leeds will demand £45 million for his signature, having signed the player for just £1.25 million from Feyenoord in 2020.

Interestingly, his former club were keen on signing him in January, but were priced out of a move. However, manager Arne Slot has now swapped the Eredivisie for Anfield following the departure of Jurgen Klopp at the end of the campaign.

It seems inevitable that Summerville will depart Leeds over the course of the next couple of months. Their failure to secure promotion back to the Premier League means that they will need to raise significant funds and the attacker is one player that can generate a huge fee.

He will also be keen at another shot at the top tier and will likely have an array of clubs to choose from. Liverpool is an easy link to make, especially with their new boss coming from the player’s former club and having spoken publicly about his talents earlier in the year.
