Leeds United Preparing Summer Transfer Bid

Leeds United are set to explore the option to make Joe Rodon’s loan move a permanent one at the end of the season, according to Football Insider.

The defender joined the Whites on a season-long deal in August and has since become a staple of Daniel Farke’s side. Having made 44 appearances in all competitions, his time at Elland Road has afforded him the opportunity to rebuild his career after struggling since joining Tottenham Hotspur in 2020.

Rodon initially caught the eye of the Premier League club after some impressive performances for Swansea City, eventually sealing a £11 million transfer to North London. However, he has featured just 24 times in all competitions and spent last season at French club Rennes.

He endured a difficult time in Ligue 1, but his revitalisation at Elland Road has been impressive. He has formed a formidable partnership at the heart of the defence with international teammate Ethan Ampadu, who was recognised last night in the EFL Championship Team of the Season.

The pair have been pivotal to Leeds’ rise up the table, which saw them briefly hit top spot last month before their recent form saw them slip back to third. Despite that, they will still fancy their chances of returning to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

Whatever happens, it is claimed that the Yorkshire side are keen to bring the Wales international to the club on a permanent basis, with Spurs setting an asking price of between £10-15 million. Speaking to the Inside Track podcast, journalist Pete O’Rouke states that the three-time English champions would ‘love’ to complete the deal at the end of the season.

Leeds have three games left to try and move back into the top two, starting with a tough trip to Middlesbrough next Monday. They will need to recover from their recent form, having picked up just one point from their last three outings, culminating in Saturday’s shock 1-0 defeat against Blackburn Rovers.

This looks to be a transfer that is increasingly likely to happen, although you have to feel that Tottenham will have to lower their asking price slightly. Expecting up to £15 million for a player that has barely featured for them seems optimistic, especially when they paid less than that for his services four years ago.

The North Londoners are clearly taking advantage of the excellent campaign he has enjoyed at Elland Road and will be hoping for a bidding war. However, Rodon would surely prefer to stay put in Yorkshire and this could prove to be a key part in negotiations once the transfer window opens in June.
