Millwall Contemplating Major Summer Change

Millwall are keeping tabs on the progress of Hearts manager Steven Naismith, according to a report from Football Insider.

Naismith’s side beat Celtic comfortably at home over the weekend, putting a huge dent in their hopes of catching Rangers in the Scottish Premiership title race. It’s the second time his team has beaten the Glasgow giants this season, with the previous game in December also ending 2-0. It’s the first time such an achievement has happened in 17 years.

Hearts are currently third, 13 points ahead of St. Mirren in fourth place. The former Everton striker’s side are well within contention to get back into Europe this season after a dismal campaign in the Europa Conference League saw them knocked out in the qualifying rounds by PAOK Thessaloniki.

The former Norwich City man has only been in full-time management as a recognised head coach since September but has reportedly already caught the eye of several Championship clubs, with Millwall being one of those. Hearts have lost just one of their last 14 games in all competitions.

Neil Harris recently took over the Lions for a second time, but his current contract only runs until June 2025. The ex-Cambridge United man has led his side to back-to-back wins for the first time since January, including an important victory against Russell Martin’s Southampton.

Despite this, the report states that the club are contemplating more managerial changes in the summer, and Naismith is someone admired internally at the Den. They currently sit 18th in the Championship, one point above the relegation zone ahead of a potential six-pointer against Blackburn Rovers tonight.

Naismith has been immense for Hearts since taking over this season, stopping the run of bad results and turning them into a really hard side to beat, even for the top sides like Celtic. An achievement like that was always going to make teams in England take notice, so it’s no surprise Millwall have taken a liking to the Scottish manager.

The Lions may not see Harris as a long-term option, and may already be planning for next season with another manager who can take them back to that next level after a pretty poor showing this year, which sees them sweating for survival in the games that remain.
