Derby County are set to win the race to sign Cardiff City midfielder Ebou Adams on loan for the remainder of the season, according to Football Insider.
The Rams are hoping to bring in a couple of new faces before the transfer window closes tomorrow night as they target promotion back to the Championship at the second time of asking. After enduring a slow start to the season, Paul Warne has guided the team back into automatic promotion contention, where they are currently four points off leaders Portsmouth and just one behind second-placed Bolton Wanderers.
Only Corey Blackett-Taylor has arrived at Pride Park this month this far, although reports emerged yesterday that they are looking at bringing in one of either Michael Smith or Lee Gregory from Sheffield Wednesday. Despite being one of the division’s top scorers, the manager is keen to bolster his attacking options to help break into the top two.
The centre of the park is now being targeted though and it appears as if the East Midlands-based club are closing in on a temporary deal for Cardiff midfielder Ebou Adams. The 28-year-old has been allowed to leave the Championship outfit in order to find regular first team football after failing to nail down a place in Erol Bulut’s team.
Adams has recently been on international duty with Gambia at the African Cup of Nations, where he made one appearance before exiting at the Group Stage.
After impressing at Forest Green Rovers, he joined the Bluebirds in 2022. However, he suffered a muscle injury during pre-season which ruled him out the entirety of last season. The versatile midfielder has made just 11 Championship outings this season – mainly as a substitute – but is hoping to rediscover the form which earned him a move to the second tier.
Football Insider state that Derby have beaten a number of League One clubs for his signature, where he will join on a temporary deal until the end of the season.

Ebou Adams was a big hit at Forest Green and thoroughly deserved his move to the Championship in 2022. He has been unlucky with injuries and changes of managers, which has meant that he has struggled to make an impact in South Wales.
Derby seems like the perfect destination to rediscover his sparkle and to represent a team who are likely to be fighting for promotion for the remainder of the campaign. On paper, this appears to be a win-win for all involved.
