Blackburn Rovers are braced for late interest in attacker Tyrhys Dolan from Premier League strugglers Luton Town, according to journalist Ryan Taylor.
The Championship side are on the verge of bolstering their own attacking options after edging closer to a £2.3 million transfer of Orlando City striker Duncan McGuire, but it could be one in, one out for the Lancashire outfit.
Dolan joined Blackburn in 2020, making 42 appearances in all competitions in his debut season. He has been a mainstay in the squad ever since and has notched up two goals and two assists this season.
Having suffered a knee injury in the 4-2 win over Birmingham City in November, the 22-year-old has not featured in the Championship since, although did make his comeback in the FA Cup fourth round triumph over Wrexham earlier this week.
Jon Dahl Tomasson’s team have picked up just one league win since the youngster’s injury and have slid down the table into 18th in recent weeks. His return to the squad is a huge boost for the manager, although it looks as if he will have to fend off late interest from the Premier League over the course of the next 24 hours.
The transfer window is set to close at 11pm tomorrow night and there is currently a scramble to add last minute additions. Luton Town are one of those as they target a second season in the top tier, and last night’s impressive 4-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion has lifted them out of the bottom three.
It is claimed that the Hatters have identified Dolan as a potential target in what could be a cut-price deal. The former Preston North End youngster is out of contract at Ewood Park at the end of the campaign, although the 1995 Premier League champions do hold the option to trigger a one-year extension.
Luton Town considering late swoop for Blackburn Rovers forward Tyrhys Dolan. Deal expires in June but #Rovers, who are also set to sign Orlando City striker Duncan Maguire, do have 12-month option which is likely to be triggered to protect value. #LTFC https://t.co/OYJLJE6nFU

Taylor claims that Blackburn are likely to activate the clause in order to protect their player’s value. Dolan is valued at just over £5 million, according to Transfermarkt.

Dolan isn’t prolific by any stretch of the imagination but his value to the team can be seen by Blackburn’s results since he suffered his injury in November. Although they look to have secured a deal for Duncan McGuire, they will still be reluctant to lose one of their young stars, especially for a bargain fee.
This is one transfer that is unlikely to happen this month and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see news emerge quickly that Rovers have triggered his one-year extension. Perhaps this is one that is more likely to materialise in the summer.
