Norwich City are reportedly interested in signing Celtic winger Mikey Johnstone, according to a report by Inside Futbol.
Norwich are set to be looking to add the Republic of Ireland winger to their squad as they look to hunt down a place in the Championship playoffs, currently sitting in 9th and two points adrift of the top six. The report claims that they are not the only English second-tier side showing interest in the six-time international, with rivals West Bromwich Albion also said to be considering a move.
Johnstone is by no means a regular at Celtic Park, having only made nine Premiership appearances this campaign after spending last season on loan in Portugal with Vitória Guimarães. The former Scotland Under 21 international, who declared for the Republic of Ireland in March last year, provided eight goal involvements in 31 appearances in southern Europe.
Celtic have added German Nicolas Kuhn to their squad in this window, with the winger arriving in Scotland from Rapid Vienna and have welcomed Israeli attacker Liel Abada back from injury meaning that Johnstone’s game time could be further diminished.
The interest from The Canaries comes amid reports that they are bracing themselves for a late bid for attacker Jon Rowe from Italian giants Lazio and could see the Celtic man as an option to bolster the squad should they lose their top scorer to the Stadio Olimpico.
At present, it remains to be seen whether Johnstone is open to a move south of the border or whether Celtic will be willing to let him leave without further adding to their ranks.
At 24 years old, Johnstone must be desperate for some regular first-team football and, if it is unlikely to come with the Scottish champions, a move to the English Championship would surely appeal to him.
He has managed 25 goal involvements in 92 matches for the Celtic first-team and with a regular run of games could provide an attacking threat in the second tier. Any move is likely to be dependent upon whether Celtic can bring in players to add depth to their squad and whether Norwich lose a key attacking player in the coming days.
