Norwich City attacker Jon Rowe is the subject of last-minute interest from Serie A giants Lazio after the Italian’s ended their pursuit of Sunderland’s Jack Clarke, according to La Lazio Siamo Noi.
News emerged last week that the two-time Italian champions were hoping to bring the Black Cats’ winger to Rome before the end of the transfer window on Wednesday night. A £15 million offer had been tabled, although the Wearsiders rejected the advances.
Instead of returning with a second offer, it is now claimed that I Biancocelesti have turned their attention to another of England’s young stars in Jon Rowe, who is enjoying his breakthrough season at Carrow Road.
The 20-year-old is the Canaries’ top goalscorer this season with 13 in all competitions and has also attracted Premier League attention in the form of West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur.
Rowe missed yesterday’s 5-2 FA Cup fourth round defeat against Liverpool at Anfield yesterday having suffered a broken bone in his hand in the 1-0 defeat against Leeds United earlier this month. As a result, he is also set to miss this weekend’s crucial Championship clash with Coventry City.

His latest injury has not deterred any potential suitors though, and reports from Italy claim that Lazio are working on a deal which would see him move to the continent. The Champions League outfit are also keen on Arsenal’s Emile Smith Rowe, who has fallen out of favour at the Emirates.
Norwich have recovered from their slow start to the season in recent weeks to surge up the table. Manager David Wagner was under increasing pressure after a run of five defeats in six games between October and November, but recent form has seen them move to within two points of the play-off places.
The former Huddersfield Town boss is yet to make any additions to his squad this month and will be reluctant to lose his talisman in the final days of the window. However, the report states that Norwich would be willing to accept an offer of between £10-15 million, which is somewhere in the vicinity to what Lazio offered Sunderland for Clarke.

Young English players have become more attractive to top European teams in recent years due to the successes in international competitions. Jon Rowe is a player who is expected to go on to bigger things and it’s no surprise to see clubs such as Lazio expressing an interest.
Norwich know they face a fight to keep their academy graduate and will be hoping that they can maintain his services until at least the end of the season. A play-off spot is the aim and losing their top goalscorer would be a major blow, especially with so little of the window remaining in order to find and ample replacement.
