Hull City Manager Compared To Premier League Great

Hull City manager Liam Rosenior has been compared to Premier League great Arsene Wenger by his former Arsenal star Ray Parlour.

The 39-year-old is in the midst of his first permanent managerial position at the MKM Stadium, taking over from Shota Arveladze just over a year ago. Upon his appointment, the Tigers were languishing just above the Championship relegation spots, but he steadied the ship to achieve a respectable 15th-placed finish.

A busy summer – which included the signings of Jaden Philogene and Aaron Connolly from Premier League duo Aston Villa and Brighton & Hove Albion respectively – led to renewed optimism at the Humberside club, and they currently sit two points off the play-off places in ninth.

Last weekend’s defeat against fellow promotion hopefuls West Bromwich Albion saw them slip a couple of places, allowing Preston North End – who Rosenior’s team beat the week prior – to climb back up to sixth. However, the division remains incredibly tight and a win over strugglers Huddersfield Town this weekend could lift them into the promotion places.

The former Derby County interim manager is under contract until 2025, although it was reported yesterday that a fresh deal could be on the cards, with other clubs starting to take notice.

With his stock already high, former Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour believes there are similarities between Rosenior and former Gunners’ boss Arsene Wenger, who is widely attributed with changing the style of English football in the 90s. The Frenchman joined the North London club in 1996, winning three Premier League titles and seven FA Cups during a 22-year stay at the club.

Speaking to bettingsites.co.uk, via Hull Livethe former England international said;

“I’ve met Liam a couple of times and he’s got a great coaching philosophy, people listen to him, and he knows what he wants from what he’s done in the past. He’s been a coach before and now has the opportunity to step up as a manager and the players are definitely responding to him. He’s a genuinely good guy.

“You’ve got to have a presence as a manager, and you’ve also got to do the best for the players, and Liam will want the best for the players. Arsene Wenger was always like that, what we used to do in mid-week training was so important to him in preparing for the game on the weekend, and I think Liam will be exactly the same at Hull.”

Hull will be hoping that they can maintain their form throughout the coming months and return to the top tier for the first time since 2017.

It’s no surprise to see Liam Rosenior starting to earn the plaudits that he deserves. He is doing a wonderful job at Hull – a club he knows so well after making 161 appearances for them as a player between 2010 and 2015.

The Championship is arguably as strong as it has ever been and it will be a difficult task to break into the play-off places. However, don’t write the Tigers off. They are playing some of the most exciting football in the Championship whilst their transfer activity shows that they are clearly building for the future.
