Huddersfield Town Boss Takes Blame Following Dismal Derby Defeat

Huddersfield Town head coach Darren Moore has taken full responsibility for his side’s first-half display which saw the Terriers head in at the half-time break 4-0 down in the West Yorkshire Derby.

Moore’s men found themselves three goals down at the interval in midweek during a 4-0 defeat at home to Cardiff City but managed to best that feat today by conceding four goals within the space of 24 minutes in the first half.

Braces from Daniel James and Crysencio Summerville in the opening 45 minutes sent Elland Road into chaos. Huddersfield Town did win the second half 1-0 after Michał Helik scored 20 minutes from the end but it was too little too late for the visitors.

Moore’s side now sit five points above the relegation zone but Rotherham United have two games in hand and face Sheffield Wednesday and Queens Park Rangers over the coming week while Huddersfield take on Watford and Hull City.

Speaking to club media after the embarrassing derby result, the former West Bromwich Albion boss pinned the blame on himself and not the players:

“I take full responsibility for how it went today, from our perspective, it just wasn’t good enough.

“We felt there was a pivotal moment in the game at 1-0, we had a brilliant chance to counterattack and we didn’t quite take that opportunity.

“After that Leeds get two quick-fire goals and the game runs away from us.

“Half-time, I made one or two changes to make us a little bit more solid but in the second half, it just petered out.

“The least we expect is playing for pride, and that’s what we did after the break.

“Now we get back on the training ground and starting working, preparing for the next game.”

Huddersfield Town may well be in the relegation zone by the end of next week should results go against them, undoing Neil Warnock’s hard work earlier in the campaign to get the side up the table.

Performances in the first half have let the team down twice in the last few days and this is an area that needs to be sorted out before Watford travel to the John Smith’s Stadium on Saturday.
