EFL Pundit Names Primary Weakness In Blackburn Rovers’ Squad

Following a massive 4-0 win over relegation-threatened Queens Park Rangers on Saturday, ex-Swindon Town star Sam Parkin has still questioned one area of Blackburn Rovers’ squad.

The Riversiders ended a four-game losing streak at the weekend with an emphatic win over QPR, widening the gap from the relegation zone from two to five points thanks to goals from Tyrhys Dolan, Sammie Szmodics and a brace from Arnór Sigurðsson.

This was certainly a welcomed victory from Blackburn Rovers players, coaches and fans alike as a defeat at Loftus Road could have seen last season’s seventh-placed team drop into the relegation spots.

It was all the more relieving to see chances being converted which has been an area of concern for the ex-Premier League champions in recent weeks under head coach Jon Dahl Tomasson.

However, EFL pundit Sam Parkin still believes the lack of frontmen in the squad could be the team’s Achilles Heel this season. Speaking on the What The EFL? Podcast, the former Championship player said [quotes via Inside Futbol]:

“I think a lot of the Blackburn fans will still be concerned about the lack of strikers in the squad.

“Is that going to be the Achilles heel again? Can they get by with Sam Gallagher, Dolan and Ryan Hedges?”

Parkin also believes that Semir Telalović, who joined the club from Borussia Mönchengladbach in the summer with a massive reputation as a prolific goalscorer, hasn’t had many opportunities to showcase his talent.

“They have signed Telalovic but he hasn’t really had an opportunity yet. Is that going to continue to be a problem?”

Blackburn Rovers lost their talisman, Ben Brereton Díaz, in the summer on a free transfer after the Chile international joined La Liga side Villarreal which was always going to negatively affect the number of goals scored.

However, Saturday’s showing was hugely positive for Tomasson as it proved that Rovers can be menacing up top. Hopefully, this will be the start of their climb back up the table.
