West Bromwich Albion boss Carlos Corberan has confirmed that attacking star Jeremy Sarmiento has suffered an injury blow that will keep him out of the squad for a few weeks.
The Baggies were victorious over a struggling Sheffield Wednesday last night in a 1-0 win at the Hawthorns, with John Swift’s 13th-minute goal being enough to clinch a victory, lifting Corberan’s side into the playoff places.
However, having featured in every Championship game this season for West Brom, Jeremy Sarmiento was not in the squad for last night’s fixture at home and the manager has since revealed that the Ecuador international will be out of action for a few weeks with a quadriceps injury.
Speaking after the game, Corberan said [quotes via club media]:
“He had some pain in the quadriceps. He was playing some minutes at the end of the Preston game and he felt pain in the muscle, in the left quadricep.
“With this pain, he was receiving treatment on Sunday and when the doctors checked – when the pain was there and didn’t disappear, they made a scan – yesterday, it showed an injury.
It is going to keep him apart from the group for four weeks. It’s difficult,” he continued.
“It’s difficult because when I heard yesterday that he would be injured for four weeks, it’s going to affect you. It doesn’t mean we don’t have solutions, but I never want to lose any player.”
The international break is on the near horizon so the Brighton and Hove Albion loanee may only miss two or three games, including this weekend’s clash away at Birmingham City.

Sarmiento has started just one game this season which came during a goalless draw with Millwall over a week ago but he has been a key man off the bench for the Baggies.
The Ecuadorian offers a lot of quality off the bench so this will be missed over the coming weeks if West Brom are struggling to break down a team late in the game and need something different.
