‘Poorest Side To Come Here In Years’: Reporter Slams Sheffield Wednesday After Defeat

Sheffield Wednesday’s current crop of players have been labelled as one of the worst sides to come to the Hawthorns in recent memory, following a 1-0 defeat to West Bromwich Albion last night.

Wednesday’s woes continued when John Swift bagged for the Baggies in the 13th minute which turned out to be the only goal of the game as Carlos Corberan’s men cruised to a 1-0 win, taking them inside the playoff places.

The scoreline may suggest a narrower game than it was. Despite going a goal down early into the match, the Owls registered merely 25 percent possession throughout the ninety minutes, accumulating just one shot on target and an xG of 0.13 in total.

Sheffield Wednesday did well to limit West Brom’s chances during the match but never looked like scoring as pressure has piled further on head coach Xisco Munoz who is facing dismissal just ten league games into his tenure.

Writing on Twitter/X after the game, Birmingham Live reporter Joe Chapman claimed this was one of the worst Wednesday sides to come to the Hawthorns over the years [quotes via Sheffield Wednesday News]:

“Have seen a few Wednesday teams come to The Hawthorns down the years, and I’d say the current side were perhaps the poorest, but a word needs to go to the away fans. Thought they were very good.”
The Owls are now facing relegation back down to League One, having picked up merely two points all season, sitting seven off the relegation places already, or potentially eight if results go against them tonight.

Sheffield Wednesday face Huddersfield Town on Saturday in what is the biggest game of the season for the club and a must-win one at that.
If Munoz is not sacrificed for yesterday’s defeat, a loss to the Terriers, all but condemning the team to relegation, will certainly be the final nail in his coffin.
