Host Of Clubs Eyeing Up Move For Highly-Rated League Two Striker

Crewe Alexandra could be set to lose top goalscorer Dan Agyei in the summer, with the striker’s contract expiring and a host of clubs interested in the player, according to Ned Holmes from Football League World.

The 25-year-old has been on top form this season, starting all 35 of the Railwaymen’s League Two games, while scoring 12 goals and grabbing three assists in the process.

Joining Crewe last January on an 18-month contract, the English man will be no short of interest with Football League sides Luton, Exeter, Oxford, Portsmouth and Salford all understood to be monitoring the striker’s situation.

With numerous League One and even Championship sides interested in the player’s services, Crewe boss Lee Bell spoke earlier in the week that the club has started contract talks with several Alexandra players, with Agyei included in that bunch.

The former Burnley man made a name for himself at the age of 19, making a rare appearance in the Premier League. Following his time there, Agyei then got the opportunity to join Oxford United in League One during the Summer of 2019.

Things, unfortunately, didn’t work out there for the striker, with only eight goals in his two-and-a-half years there. Agyei then made the move to his current side, where he has reutilised his career and has now attracted the attention of his former club and more.

Crewe currently sits 17th in League Two after getting relegated from League One last season. With a less-than-ideal return to the division, they sit safely 13 points away from the drop zone, however, are closer to relegation than the promotion places.

Back at the start of his career, Agyei was a highly touted youngster with clubs including West Ham and Chelsea interested in him as a teenager.

It’s taken some time, but it seems the striker has now started to mould into the player he can be, with a very successful season so far.

Coming off his best season to date and being a free agent in the Summer, I think it would be smart for the player to take his time when deciding which club to next play for. By the report, there are a host of clubs keen on Agyei and he should even get to decide which level he would like to play at.

If Crewe can keep their top goalscorer that would be very wise, however, it seems the player will get the final say.
