Portsmouth star Ronan Curtis has made an honest admission about his time with the club, as his contract is set to expire this summer, speaking to The Portsmouth News.
Curtis has been rejuvenated since the arrival of new coach John Mousinho and has become a regular starter in the team at Fratton Park once again.
The Irishman was linked with Championship club Huddersfield last summer and has reportedly attracted interest from other Championship clubs such as Blackburn Rovers. But, despite this interest that shows the talent he has, no talks on a new deal have taken place.
With the winger’s contract expiring this summer, Curtis insists he is relaxed about his future, revealing how much he loves it on the South Coast having joined in May 2018. Since his arrival, he has made 226 appearances and scored 57 goals.
The 26-year-old is one of 13 players out of contract this summer, but as reported last month, the club have currently placed all contract decisions on hold to give the new coach more time to assess his squad.
So far this season, Curtis has made 36 appearances, scoring seven times, and was on the scoresheet in their 4-0 victory over Cheltenham Town last weekend. He has been in the starting lineup for the last two games after suffering an ankle injury against Fleetwood, which was the new coach’s first game in charge at the club.
Speaking to the Portsmouth News, Curtis had this to say about his future with the club
“Obviously I would like to have some clarification on my future, but it’s up to the gaffer, the board and the owners what they want to do.
“I am just focused on the football side of it, keeping myself fit and hopefully playing in the majority of the rest of the games as we try to push up the table for the play-offs.
“I’ve never been out of contract here before, this is the first time it’s happened, but I will leave that to the agent and club.
“I love it down here.
With the three-and-a-half-year deal signed in February 2020 set to expire this summer, Curtis will become a free agent should a new deal not be offered, and it looks set to head to the wire at this present time.

Curtis has a lot to offer Portsmouth still at 26, and it is obvious he is viewed as Championship quality with the interest in him from clubs at that level. With Portsmouth looking to step up to that level as a club, it would be wise to keep him around and to have his passion for the club as well is another factor that would be beneficial to those around him at Fratton Park. For now, it remains to be seen just how much they want him to stay with the club.
Portsmouth fans, can the club hang on to Ronan Curtis?
