Jody Morris Warns His Players Need To Hear Some Truths

Swindon’s new era under Jody Morris hasn’t quite gotten off to the start they were after, as he now warms his players they need to hear some home truths if improvement is to be seen, according to Jonny Leighfield from Swindon Advertiser.

The ex-Chelsea man brought a ton of excitement into the club when he was appointed as the new Swindon manger just 17 days ago, however three straight defeats and some questionable sales towards the end of the Winter transfer window, has rocked the ship slightly.

The Robins most recent defeat came at the hands of Sutton United, after Charlie Austin’s first half goal got cancelled out with two Sutton goals in the last five minutes.

Swindon’s collapse at the end of the game was met with some firm words from the new boss, as he still attempts to find his first win as a Head Coach.

Morris said: “I don’t think I should mask over anything or dress it up.

“To give yourself the best chance of getting those three points, you have to do better.

“I’m all for positivity and making sure you’ve got players onside, but if they don’t want to be onside just because they got told they need to improve in a lot of areas like conceding silly goals and conceding silly territory because they’re not showing enough personality to get on the ball, then they’re going to struggle.”

“There are a lot of things that you need to overcome in football, and bad spells are going to happen a lot more regularly than great spells.

“We need to get out of this slump, but I don’t believe there is any point in pretending that we didn’t contribute to that defeat in the second half.

“I could have gone into the changing room and blamed the referee, I could have gone in there and said how unlucky we were, but they do need to realise that for us to learn and improve, they do need to be told some home truths as well.”

Morris is no stranger to getting out of difficult spells after being Frank Lampard’s right hand man at Derby and Chelsea, it seems he wants his players to take some accountability and learn from their mistakes.

Swindon were active towards the end of the transfer window with a new wind of young talent coming in, this saw some of the more experienced players leave the club. For the time being, that seems to be part of the issue with Morris calling out for his players, as the inexperience from some of them has shown.

Now Morris has to get these young guys up to date, and with three months of football left this season, he won’t have long before the ship sinks further.
