This is going to be a two-part article where I give my opinion on which ten players from League One have a high chance of making it to what the best league in the world, the Premier League.Â
Although making the jump doesn’t always guarantee you a starting spot in the team, it shows that the team believe in you. Although Dele Alli is currently playing for Besiktas, once upon a time he impressed in League One for MK Dons, which earned him a move to Tottenham Hotspur where he quickly became one of England’s brightest talents and they valued him over £100M.
Spurs signed him because of the talent he showed and the talent has never left him. It’s just a shame his attitude to the game wasn’t better and he could have been an even bigger success story from League One to the Premier League.
However, an example of a player who made his name even lower than through League One and now one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League is David Raya.
David Raya started his career with Blackburn after spending a season with National League Southport, then broke into the first team at Blackburn playing in League One and the Championship. In 2019, he signed for Brentford, who was also in the Championship and he worked his way up to now playing in the Premier League.
A different story to Dele Alli’s and a different pathway, but a better outcome. It shows they’re many pathways into the Premier League and although Dele Alli had the talent he lacked the attitude. David Raya has both and that’s why he worked his way through the leagues.
