Wimbledon Defender’s Championship Move Breaks Down

Bristol City have pulled out of a deal to sign AFC Wimbledon full-back Jack Currie after the League Two club refused to sanction the players departure, according to the Bristol Post.

The Robins had a bid accepted today in the region of £600,000, which also included a 20 per cent sell on clause, however, Wimbledon wanted a loan back clause included in the sale, which is what has caused the deal to hit a stalling point.

It also deals a blow to another Championship club on deadline day, as the acquisition of Currie is thought to have paved the way for Jay Dasilva to head out of Bristol City’s door towards Coventry City.

Currie has been an important figure for Wimbledon this season, making 25 appearances for the club, and the club were reluctant to see their man leave while they were unable to bring in a replacement.

The deal is not thought to be completely dead in the water with the only block currently being the League Two side wanting a loan back clause, as for the player, it is thought he is unhappy after a verbal agreement to leave in this window.

Currie is a vital part of the set up with Wimbledon, however, he matches the recruitment policy that Bristol City have in place for their team in signing young players who have proven to be high quality in the EFL, as proven by their first deadline day deal which saw Anis Mehmeti join from League One side Wycombe Wanderers. Because of this fact, it would not be very surprising to see Bristol come back in for the player in the summer, should they not finalise before the deadline tonight.

The two clubs normally enjoy a good working relationship, seeing Ryley Towler join Wimbledon on loan in the first half of this season, this could factor in the Championship sides favour, as well as the fact that Currie did have a verbal agreement to leave in this window, the League Two side would not want to keep an unhappy player among their ranks.

Wimbledon fans, do you think the club should sell Currie?
