A deadline day switch for Albanian Anis Mehmeti seems to be on the cards, as Mike McGrath of the Telegraph reports Championship side Bristol City has agreed on a fee with Wycombe Wanderers.
The 22-year-old has been considered one of the best talents in the EFL this season and has lived up to that trademark as he enjoys a career best season scoring nine and assisting four in 30 appearances in League One and the EFL Cup this season, marking an improvement on seven goals and four assists last season.
The player has been influential in guiding the Chairboys’ up the table in their promotion push this season, and is set for a medical on deadline day with the Championship club. He has been on the radar of clubs for some time, with Premier League side Nottingham Forest reportedly interested previously rating him at a seven figure price.
Mehmeti did play in the Championship with Wycombe in the 2020/21 season, netting three goals before the club were relegated back down to the third tier once again.

As mentioned above, Mehmeti has been vital for the club this season, he signed a new contract in November 2021 that would keep him at the club until 2024, so they will most likely receive a respectable fee for their player.
However, he would be a difficult player to replace, he joined in September 2020 through their reserve team, he has experience in Premier League academies with Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur before joining up with Norwich City. He has spent a little over two years with the club making 97 appearances during that time scoring 19 and assisting nine.
He has also shown some versatility as he is an attacking midfielder by trade but has been primarily deployed as a winger this season. Having been dubbed such an exciting talent, it is plain to see that for what they have available, there are not many better options, if any, in English football than the Albanian to replace Antoine Semenyo on the left side of their attacking trio.
Pearson is building a strong team of highly rated young players, for example, Alex Scott who has been monitored by Premier League club Wolverhampton Wanderers this past month so would be another exciting addition to the Championship club, but a devastating loss for the Chairboys’.
Wycombe fans, how big of a blow is losing Mehmeti?
