Newport County are in talks to sign 19-year-old striker Charlie McNeill from Manchester United, reports Richard Fey of the Manchester Evening News.
It is understood that everything is agreed upon and in place for the youngster to join up with his new club, and he has already trained with his new teammates eager to get started.
McNeill spent last season with League One Sheffield Wednesday, but this was on a work experience loan, which only allowed him to train with the club and not feature in any matches.
It is believed the player turned down opportunities higher up the league pyramid because there could not be any assurances about the player’s role with the teenager desperate to get first-team football to his name.
McNeill made his senior debut for the Premier League side this season, coming off the bench for the final six minutes of their Europa League defeat to Real Sociedad.

McNeill is a fantastic young talent and has a lot to offer to a team as an attacking option, he rejoined his boyhood club three years ago after leaving in 2014 to join local rivals Manchester City where he rejected a new contract.
The striker is full of potential and is thought highly of by many at Old Trafford, he is expected to be the next product to come through the youth setup and his goalscoring exploits have reportedly impressed Erik Ten Hag, making the boss keen to see the youngster start forcing his way into the first team.
It is claimed that during his time as a youth player, the striker netted over 600 goals, it is plain to see why so many clubs were keen to secure his signature and Newport will be hoping he can bring those goals over to them at a senior level. A lethal striker who certainly has a lot of potential to his name as his goalscoring record suggests.
Newport fans, how excited are you to see McNeill added to your squad?
