What Can Swindon Town Expect From Jake Cain?

Swindon Town have completed the signing of midfielder Jake Cain from Premier League giants Liverpool on a deal that will run till 2025 for an undisclosed fee.

On Monday evening, League Two side Swindon Town added a midfield reinforcement, due to 25-year-old Louis reed departing the club. Swindon look to add to their side in a bid to achieve promotion to League Two. Swindon currently sits 6th in League Two five points from the automatic promotion places.

Jake rose through the Liverpool ranks playing a total of 90 games for the academy. As a result of his academy form, he earned a call-up to the Shrewsbury 4th round replay and played the full 90 minutes in that game. He then joined Newport County on loan as he features 28 times for the Welsh outfit contributing to two goals in his time at the club.

He returned to Liverpool’s academy for the first part of this season 13 times in all competitions contributing to 4 goals in that time, also earning himself a call-up to the bench in the Third round of the EFL Cup against League one outfit Derby.

Writer’s view…

With the departure of Louis Reed, I struggle to see this being a like-for-like replacement as Cain has spent the majority of his playing time as a more attacking-minded midfielder, especially during his time at Newport. I can remember him coming on against Swindon and changing the game into Newport’s balance a bit more, a game they went on to win one nil due to a Dion Conroy Own goal.

Although a long-term contract for an exciting prospect, will add some much-needed depth into the midfield for Swindon with Iandolo and Gladwin being touted moves elsewhere could this be their replacement

WHAT DO YOU THINK SWINDON FANS?
