Lincoln City Set For Heartbreak In Pursuit Of 24-Year-Old

Lincoln City are set for a transfer blow as target Tayo Edun looks set to choose Charlton Athletic over a return to Sincil Bank according to Peter O’Rourke.

Lincoln City alongside Sheffield Wednesday and MK Dons are chasing the signiture of the 24-year-old. The versatile Englishman has been made available for a loan deal this window after only making 8 appearances so far this season at Ewood Park with Harry Pickering being favoured by Jon Dahl Tomasson since he joined the Lancashire side. He is one of five players believed to have been made available by the Championship side for loan this window.

Some Lincoln fans took to social media to implore the Imps to bring back the former fan favourite. In his first stint at Sincil Bank, he showed hard work and dedication on and off the pitch. When he left Lincoln in the summer of 2021 it left a big hole in their team and the hearts of the fans who had been hoping they would manage to keep him. He may have provided a much needed cover for the recently injured Matty Virtue.

Confirmed: Tayo Edun Departs Sincil Bank

Edun was born in London so a return to home could have swayed his decision to move to Charlton over his former club. The Addicks are currently sitting mid-table in 12th after an underwhelming start to the season under former manager Ben Garner, with Dean Holden recently taking the reigns. The January transfer window comes at an opportune time for the former Oldham Athletic manager to mould his squad ahead of a vital end to the season.

Writer’s view…

Missing out on this target is a huge blow for Lincoln but would have been much greater had they not managed to sign Harry Boyes on loan from Sheffield United already this window. Edun’s versatility would have been invaluable considering the serious injury to midfielder Matty Virtue.

On the other hand, a move closer to London may be better for Edun in a personal sense. He would be able to focus on football and be in familiar surroundings.
