“Don’t Break My Heart” – These Sheffield Wednesday Fans React As Player Situation Develops

Sheffield Wednesday favourite Mark McGuinness is believed to have played his last game for the club this past weekend against Newcastle.

Wednesday fans are, however, optimistic they can keep their man, with some believing a permanent deal could even be possible for the right price.

The centre-back is currently on loan from Championship side Cardiff and has been fantastic for the club so far this season, making 17 appearances and scoring once in League One. He spent time on loan in League One before with Ipswich Town in the 20/21 season before Premier League side Arsenal made the decision to sell to Cardiff in July 2021.

McGuinness also recently won the club’s player of the month award for December with his performances at the back. As well as that, he was key to the Owls’ fantastic defensive performance against the Magpies this past weekend, as they held on to their narrow one-goal lead in the closing stages of the game.

Wednesday and Cardiff alike fans appeared to believe this was the 22-year-olds final game for the club as he appeared to be waving goodbye to the fans after the final whistle on Saturday. It is not certain, at this point in time, whether the Bluebirds can recall McGuinness, as manager Mark Hudson admitted that the embargo the club is currently placed under could affect their decision to recall the player.

However, Wednesday have made one final push to keep their star man as boss Darren Moore admitted they have sent paperwork to the Championship side with their intention to keep the Irishman until the end of the season.

Still, their fans are terrified their loan man might leave, with one claiming to be on the verge of having his heart broken, which is where we begin our roundup.
