Hope For Positive Outcome Over Mansfield Town Forward’s Future

The future of Walsall’s Danny Johnson on loan from fellow League Two side Mansfield Town hangs in the balance according to Express & Star

The striker, on loan from fellow League 2 side Mansfield Town, has 11 goals for The Saddlers so far this season including a hattrick on his debut. His loan is due to end on the 15th of January and a good start to the season has attracted interest.

It is a possibility that Johnson re-joins his parent club after the expiration of his deal and gets more game time for The Stags. He also could extend his loan until the summer or even make the deal at Walsall a permanent one.

Colchester United are another club who have expressed an interest in the poacher. They have shown a real sign of intent so far this window already making 3 new signings since the window opened. Getting the signature of Johnson would prove just how serious they are this season and going forward.

Managers of both Mansfield and Walsall were questioned on Johnson’s future, Stags boss Nigel Clough told the reporter the decision was “above his pay grade.” Whilst Micheal Flynn suggested,

“Nothing has changed as we sit here – he is a Walsall player until January 15, that is all we know.

“On that date, he will either go back to Mansfield, stay with us, or go to another club but, according to some of the figures quoted, he won’t be at Walsall. He went on to talk about the player’s personality saying,

“Danny is training with us, is available to play and is hungry for goals, he is a great lad and we would be sorry to lose him but we will have to see what happens.”

Writers view…

It is clear Walsall would be sad to see him go especially after the good start to the season he has had so I can expect them to want to try and keep hold of him. I don’t personally see a future for him at Mansfield if there was he wouldn’t have been loaned out. Colchester is a possibility but with that one, it’s more of a wait and see.
