‘Best news in ages’ – Plenty of Colchester fans are delighted with today’s announcement

Colchester United have secured a transfer double-swoop, with striker Frank Noule the headline capture from Plymouth Argyle.

Hot on the heels of announcing an 18-month deal for Brendan Sarpong-Wiredu from Charlton, fans of the U’ were treated to the news bustling striker Nouble was returning on loan from Plymouth Argyle.

Nouble made 31 appearances in all competitions for the Pilgrims, 15 of which were starts, with two goals to his name. One of those goals helped his side knock QPR out of the League Cup, but he hasn’t looked at ease since that debut strike and hasn’t scored since mid-October.

Argyle manager Ryan Lowe admitted the player needed to impress if he were to grab a contract next season. “Frank had been a regular starter earlier in the season but has found game time limited of late. He spoke to me and said that he felt he needed to be guaranteed more football. We could not offer that at the moment. When the approach came from Colchester, we spoke to Frank, and he was happy to do it. He wanted to go and perform and earn a contract for next season.”

Nouble scored 14 goals in 92 outings for Colchester and was last seen as they exited the play-offs last season. Head coach Steve Ball was delighted to get the player back at the JobServe Community Stadium, saying: “We all know what Frank can bring to the table, both on and off the pitch, and we’re pleased that he’ll be with us for the next few months. He adds that something different to our forward options and will be keen I’m sure to hit the ground running as soon as he steps foot on the pitch and the training ground.”

Nouble started his career at West Ham and has since had spells with 17 clubs including West Brom, Tianjin Songjiang, Gillingham and Nei Mongol Zhongyou. He joins a Colchester side 18th in League Two, ten points clear of the bottom two.

Their fans have been quick to praise his arrival, as you’ll see below.
