Colchester United are targeting a promotion to League One, but unlike most clubs there’s plenty of talk about it in the dressing room.
Former West Ham striker Frank Nouble is leading the line at the moment having moved from Newport in the summer, and he’s revealed that there’s no taboo subject amongst the squad.
“Promotion is realistic – we talk about it every week,” reports Gazette News. “We want to stay in the top seven all season and hopefully, the top three and by Christmas, push on – that’s the goal, but at the same time, we try to talk it down and we know that every team in this league is fighting.”
He revealed that his matches against Colchester last season helped make his mind up, but he wishes his former side all the best.
“I think Colchester were the only team to beat us (Newport) twice last season. I came from a team that did well last year and they’re still up there, which I’m happy for. As long as we’re on top of them and we both get promoted, that’s all I ask.”
The 27-year old has scored once in nine league appearances for the U’s, four behind leading scorer Luke Norris.
Our View
Nouble isn’t a key player for Colchester, they have Mikael Mandron who has been seen off the bench and perhaps is a better target man.
That said, Nouble has done well and Colchester are sailing. It’s refreshing to here some honesty too.
