‘What will the moaners complain about this week?’ – These Sunderland fans react to Swindon Town victory

Sunderland’s impressive start to the season continued as they comfortably beat Swindon Town 2-0 at the County Ground yesterday.

In a game of few chances, it was the Black Cats who were more clinical, ensuring they remained in amongst the early promotion pacesetters. Maligned striker Charlie Wyke made it 1-0 to visitors in the 37th minute, finding space and converting a simple chance. Wyke has struggled for goals during his time on Wearside, but his finish settled any nerves fans watching at home might have had.

Veteran attacker Chris Maguire doubled the advantage 12 minutes after the restart, converting a penalty he earned himself. Mathieu Baudry brought the former Oxford man down, and he got up and sent the penalty straight down the middle to seal the points.

Baudry could have pulled one back from Jack Payne’s free-kick, but he headed wide, whilst Josh Scowen came close to making it three for Sunderland, but his shot was saved by the young keeper, Kovar.

The result leaves the Black Cats fifth in the table, with a game in hand which could see them ascend to third if they were to take all three points. Fans were undoubtedly delighted after the game, with plenty of reaction to pick through on social media.

The vitriol often aimed at Parkinson and misfiring strikers was gone, replaced with optimism, especially as many of their first-team defenders are injured and missing from the current starting XI. The best of their comments can be found below in an unusually optimistic and upbeat response.
