‘Don’t worry’, ‘It’s coming’ – These MK Dons fans refuse to be downhearted after latest defeat

MK Dons slumped to the bottom of League One with a disappointing defeat against Portsmouth at Fratton Park yesterday.

The home side got off to a great start when captain Tom Naylor, frozen out by Kenny Jackett at the end of last season, nodded home in the opening minute. However, the visitors were handed the chance to equalise 11 minutes later after Louis Thompson was fouled by Bryn Morris.

Scott Fraser converted from 12 yards to restore parity, but only for a short period of time. Pompey were back in front 11 minutes later after Geroge Williams fouled Sean Raggett in the box, with Ellis Harrison converting from the spot. Some MK fans seem to think it was a soft penalty, but on watching it again they can have few complaints.

MK Dons were desperately unlucky late in the game, Pompey goalkeeper Craig MacGillivray pulling off a series of good stops as they tried, but failed to find an equaliser.

Russell Martin pulled few punches after the game, saying “I’m fed up with being angry. I’m really hurt by us keep losing. Teams are working harder to stop us but we’re putting ourselves into a position we fought so hard to get out of last season. We’ve dominated, we’ve been the better team but we haven’t won.

“We gave them a headstart, got back in it and gave away a penalty. I’m not sure about the decision but we gave them the chance to do it. We had 19 shots away from home, eight in the box, numerous on target, but we give away two shots on target and concede two. I don’t understand it.”

His honest assessment of the game left these fans impressed in part, as he didn’t hide behind excuses, but also has then asking where the team goes from here.
