Hull City lost their 100% record in emphatic style last night, going down 4-1 against Joey Barton’s Fleetwood.
The Tigers, who are level on points with Lincoln City at the top of the table, were looking to cement an advantage ahead of today’s fixtures, but they went behind courtesy of Harvey Saunders’ 17th minute solo strike.
Hull captain George Honeyman levelled just four minutes later with a close-range finish, and Hull almost led after Callum Camps deflected a Honeyman corner onto his own bar. Honeyman repaid the favour though, he was careless in possession allowing Camps to race away and restore the Cod Army’s lead. Saunders netted from a Ched Evans cross to make it 3-1 before Sam Stubbs headed home a Paul Coutts cross into the top-right corner to finish the rout.
Hull remain second until this afternoon’s matches, whilst the win lofts Fleetwood up into seventh place, although the right set of results will plunge them back into the bottom half this afternoon.
After the game, Hull fans took to social media to express their disgust, despite their previous 100% record and despite the fact manager Grant McCann was a contender for Manager of the Month. It seems there are still a few fans aware of the collapse which led to relegation last season, with concerns that the early-season form might be a false dawn at the KCom Stadium.
