Grimsby Town announced the capture of Bristol City midfielder James Morton on a season-long loan deal last night.
The 21-year-old joins Ian Holloway’s side as they are currently on a hiatus due to a Covid-19 infection in the side. Their tie with Bradford City this weekend has been cancelled, giving Morton a chance to settle into his new team.
Morton, who has had loan spells with Chippenham Town and Bath City (twice), appeared in League Two during a temporary spell with Forest Green Rovers last season. He told the club’s official site he was excited to get started in black and white,
“I’m really excited to be here to work under the manager and to be a part of this good team,” said Morton. “I’m looking forward to showing what I can do and hopefully have a successful season with the team.
“I would describe myself as someone who enjoys getting on the ball and playing forward when I can. My qualities are on the ball, where I like to always be involved in the game while also making sure I work hard off the ball defensively. I hope to bring creativity to the team and as any midfielder, I would like assists and goals alongside that”.
His deal was announced with the usual social media fanfare, tweets teasing the announcement had Grimsby fans excited. Some felt that perhaps they were announcing the arrival of former hero Omar Bogle, and some were a little upset when they found out the news was that of Morton’s arrival, which had been an open secret for days.
Here are the best of their reaction to the midfielder’s arrival at Blundell Park.
