Charlton Atheltic have endured a torrid time over the past few seasons, but they finally look to be back on track ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Lincoln City.
The Addicks saw the club finally taken over by Thomas Sandgaard yesterday, setting them up for a busy few days in terms of recruitment. Indeed, over the last 24-hours, they have loaned in Norwich City’s Akin Famewo, as well as securing former FA Cup winner Ben Watson for the season.
That has left them in solid shape ahead of their League One season, with manager Lee Bowyer delighted to have seen another takeover at the club.
“I’m over the moon that it’s finally happened,” he told the club website.
“I’ve been told so many times that it’s going to happen. To get it over the line, it’s good not only for myself but for everyone at the football club; the fans, the players and the staff. It’s a big day for the club.”
Bowyer, who is highly-regarded as a manager and a coahc following the Addicks unlikely promotion two seasons ago, revealed he could have left South London at various points over the last year or so, but remained in place to see the job through.
“Everyone knows how much I love this club,” he explained. “I could have left on more than one occasion but I chose to stay because I want to be the person who takes Charlton back to the Premier League.
“It will take time but Thomas is here for the long haul and I want to be a part of that. I believe we’ll get there.”
In a mercenary world where loyalty tends to be bought and sold, Bowyer’s comments will elight supporters at The Valley. Once upon a time, the name ‘Lee Bowyer’ was unlikely to conjure up such positive images, but his time at Charlton has revealed a much-changed figure, one now respected and cherished by the club he started out with.
That hasn’t been lost on these supporters, who hold Bowyer in incredibly high regard.

Through everything we have endured. How lucky are we that Lee Bowyer and Johnnie Jackson are disgustingly in love with the club as much as us fans. Without them the whole process of us finally being taken over could have collapsed their loyalty is admirable! #cafc #legends
