Next up in our previews of the coming season, it’s Ipswich Town supporter Daniel Botten.
Sum up last season from your perspective.
Dull. Even when top of the league our performances never really got out of third gear. We petered out in the end due to the constant changing of the team and formation.
What has your transfer business been like this summer?
Three players, all on frees. They have filled holes in the squad but not hugely inspiring. Stephen Ward at left-back looks like the only signing that has the quality to start. Ollie Hawkins provides height but is not fit and was nowhere near Portsmouth’s side. Keeper Cornell had a nervy debut at Spurs in pre-season featuring a couple of mistakes and will start behind Thomas Holy.
How has pre-season been for you?
They say hope springs eternal at this stage of the season but I’ve never felt more ambivalent about our chances. Football coming back is great but the atmosphere around the club and the fanbase isn’t good. Our best player Flynn Downes has handed in a transfer request and pivotal defender Kane Vincent-Young is still injured.
Which players are looking like they’ll stand out this season?
Flynn Downes impressed last season and if he stays at the club, he could be pivotal to our chances but he looks gone. Kane Vincent-Young (hopefully returning from a long term injury soon) looked a class player.

Any players set to explode on the scene?
Armando Dobra is an Albanian U21, a tricky diminutive attacking midfielder who has shown real promise in his fleeting substitutes appearances. Jack Lankester is another one who has suffered a bad injury but looks set to return. He could be a fantastic player for us.
Which matches are you most looking forward to this season?
The first one I can get to at Portman Road when crowds can return will be good. Rochdale away was a great trip last season. Proper ground, fans and pubs.
What can teams expect from you this season?
A team that on paper everyone thinks should do well but realistically, struggles to cope with the levels of expectation.
Where will you finish this season?
8th.
