‘Never optimistic’ – Our Oldham Athletic fan previews the season ahead

The latest instalment of our club-specific previews sees Crewe Alexandra fan Russ Fearn in the hot seat.

What is your name, Twitter or site address and how long have you been a fan of your club?

Rhys Parsons, YouTube channel is ‘Rhys Parsons’, Twitter and Instagram is @1rhysparsons. I’ve been a season ticket holder since 2014 but my first game was in 2011 vs Carlisle United.

Sum up last season for us from your perspective.

Last season was a shambles, finished 19th and went through 2 managers which is better than normal sadly! Recruitment was dreadful last year as well which just summed up the year we had however we didn’t go down so I’ll take that as a positive. 1/10

How has pre-season been for you?

Pre-season this year has probably been one of if not the best I’ve seen. We’ve drew with Accrington 3-3 however our first team played the first half and won 3-2, we’ve beat a very strong Forest first-team 2-0, beat local side Curzon Ashton 3-2 and most recently beat Lincoln City 2-1. Looking well so far against some good opposition.

What has your transfer business been like this summer?

I’m looking forward to see Davis Keillor-Dunn play this year. We’ve only recently brought him in from Wrexham and he’s bagged 4 goals in as many games. Looks like the perfect replacement for Jonny Smith which is a hard job to fill due to Jonny’s performances last year. Also looking forward to seeing Callum Whelan who came in from Watford, Sido Jombati who joined us from Championship Wycombe and Zak Dearnley who signed a new contract with us, he was great when he re-joined in January so I’m excited to see our attacking Football this season.

Which players are looking like they’ll stand out this season?

Davis Keillor-Dunn will explode onto the scene this season. His first in the season in the EFL and I think he’ll make quite a name for himself this year. In Pre-season he’s managed a goal every game he’s played in and looks very versatile. A great signing for us so far, let’s hope we can carry on his form to League Two

Which matches are you most looking forward to this season?

I’m most looking forward to playing Bolton and Tranmere with hopefully both sets of fans in the ground. It’s always a great atmosphere between both sets of supporters when we play each other home and away.

What can teams expect from you this season?

So far I’d say teams can expect some nice, counter-attacking football. I’ve only seen us play 3 times so I can’t say too many things. Hopefully, they’ll be expecting to lose!

Where do you think you’ll finish?

Personally between 17th and 24th which is sad for a once-great club to say that’s where you think you’ll finish. However, I am never optimistic and plenty of our fans think we could push for play-offs. It’s a tough league, anyone can beat anyone, we’ll see how we do.
