Ranked – The Biggest Clubs In The Real EFL Using Intricate Computer Formula

Top Tier

The first huge surprise in the top six is Lincoln City; with just 60,000 Twitter followers they fall short of Salford City by half, but they are only behind Wimbledon in terms of percentage of ground filled and, with twice as many on their average attendance, they finish strongly. Also, having won the fourth-tier twice, the third-tier three times and the EFL Trophy, they sneak into the top six.

Bolton come in fifth, struggling to get their attendance metric up, but smashing others out of the park on trophies and social media. They are second-highest on both, but only fail to come second because of falling numbers at The University of Bolton Stadium. Bradford City follow them, the lowest placed club in the top six but boasting an average of more than 14,000 fans; only three clubs have more.

Those three clubs comprise the top three, with Ipswich and Portsmouth relatively close in those positions. Pompey just edge it due to Fratton Park being smaller, thus having a higher percentage of supporters in it. They also have five more trophy points, although Ipswich fans might argue a European Trophy should be worth more than a domestic one. Please, do feel free to argue that.

Obviously, the biggest club of them all in these two divisions is Sunderland. They have 57 trophy points alone and a social media following larger than the seven clubs below them on the list. They get far and away the biggest attendances and top the table not by a bit, but by 140 points.

Team Trophy Points Attendance Points SM Total Size
 Sunderland 57 189 93 339
 Portsmouth 31 153 15 199
 Ipswich Town 26 126 17 169
 Bradford 11 81 10 102
 Bolton 32 46 21 99
 Lincoln City 9 80 6 95

That’s the list, made up using a formula that is easily picked apart and argued, but let’s hope it causes some discussion this afternoon, eh?
